A Brief Night Out

A Brief Night Out Flyer

Written and performed by Marla Mase, A Brief Night Out is a rock opera which tells the story of a middle-aged woman, a mom, who is having an affair, falling apart at the seams, and busting with a sexy brand of anxiety.  She is obsessed with war, surrounded by addiction, and does not trust her therapist.  She is the victim of a mid-life rock-n-roll crisis.

Marla_Mase_Releases_A_Brief_Night_Out_On_CD_20010101 Mase Music is proud to announce the release of A Brief Night Out, a raw, sexy, dynamic debut album about love, passion, war, and addiction which captures the essence of the classic “downtown” New York City sound. Written and performed by Marla Mase, A Brief Night Out – the CD, like the rock-n-roll musical by the same name, is gutsy, intelligent, and genre-busting with musical styles ranging from funk to blues to pop to rap to avant-garde to rock-n-roll. The BAND, a smokin’ group of bad-ass veteran musicians combined with Mase’s fearless performance and provocative lyrics make A Brief Night Out one of the year’s most exciting and original releases.

A Brief Night Out is co-written and produced by internationally renowned guitarist and recording artist Tomas Doncker. Performing on the CD are: Tomas Donker – Guitars/vocals, Booker King - Bass (Paul Simon, Santana, Angelique Kidjo); Alan Grubner – Violin and string arrangements (Henry Threadgill, Olivia Newtown-John, Eddie Palmieri); Tobias Ralph – Drums on That Wall and DFWME (currently touring with Lauryn Hill; previously toured with the musical Movin’ Out); Nick Rolfe – keyboards and backup vocals (Roy Hargrove, Melba Moore, Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Band); Daniel Sadownick – percussion (The Roots, Al Green, Steely Dan); Heather Powell (currently touring her cabaret ‘Lipstick and Camouflage’) and Martin Vidnovic - Spoken Word (Tony nominated for his performance as Tommy in Brigadoon, The King and I, Guys and Dolls).
